Crete is the biggest Greek Island and covers a land area of 8,336 km2 with a coastline of 1,046 km. The islands length is 260 km from east to west, with a 60 km wide point that narrows to 12 km at Ierapetra Lasithi region. The Cretan landscape is mostly mountainous with a linked mountain range crossing the island from west to east, forming six different groups of mountains.
